Transitioning into January

January issue: Transitions

Hi Reader,

Anchor yourself with rituals

Rituals are routines and traditions that center us. They invite positive connections within ourselves and others. The period between the end of December and mid-January feels transitional. From the old year to the new, while you're navigating the cold winter days and slowly entering a new era. In this transitional phase, rituals bring a sense of calmness and certainty to our lives.

Rituals anchor us. Anchors are stimuli that call forth a specific state of mind, thoughts, and emotions. It can be the smell of the bread from your childhood, a certain touch that reminds you of being safe and protected, or a song that brings you back to a phase of your life when you’ve felt calm and balanced. These anchors work automatically.

Anchors can also be created intentionally. Establishing an anchor means producing the stimuli when the resourceful state is experienced. You intentionally create yourself an experience that mentally and emotionally takes you back to a place where you’ve felt confident and resourceful.

You can use anchors to overcome challenges and rewrite patterns. You can also create new anchors proactively and use them when tough times are around. Anchors can be visual, auditory, or kinesthetic. I found the impact even more profound when I worked with my clients to install the anchors into the body’s memory by tapping, establishing a touch-based anchor, or using bilateral stimulation.

Try this anchoring practice:

  1. Define how you want to feel, for instance, you want to feel confident
  2. Remember a time when you felt confident. Access this memory in your mind.
  3. Choose an anchoring event that involves touch, for instance, touch together your thumb and pointing finger. Alternatively, try the butterfly hug (crossing your arms in front of your chest and gently tapping your shoulders.)
  4. As you focus on this state of mind, remember what you saw, felt, sensed
  5. Recall the meaning of your anchor, when you're experiencing a heated situation, or simply ground yourself by applying your ritual: touching together your thumb and your pointing finger.

Uncover the deeper layer of your existence A cozy evening in my Mom's summer house watching the sunset over the lake ☀️ Hi Reader! Do you know those magical moments when you think about someone you haven't met for a long time, maybe for months and the next day you receive a message from them? It happened to me today. I love these synchronicities. Still, I kept postponing responding to the message, claiming how much stuff I had to complete before it. Stuff I dread to do. Yet I felt like I had...

Moving toward joy, excitement and light to find your next career path.

Hi Reader, I was watching this insta video from Jamie Olivier yesterday and I thought: this is how you should think about a career you love! I work with these people who want to reorient themselves in life, who were either laid off or leaving a toxic work culture, or relocating and starting everything from scratch or standing at a crossroads and trying to figure out what’s next. Usually on the very first call when we meet I ask them to start a journal and write down every single day what...
