Anchor yourself with ritualsRituals are routines and traditions that center us. They invite positive connections within ourselves and others. The period between the end of December and mid-January feels transitional. From the old year to the new, while you're navigating the cold winter days and slowly entering a new era. In this transitional phase, rituals bring a sense of calmness and certainty to our lives. Rituals anchor us. Anchors are stimuli that call forth a specific state of mind, thoughts, and emotions. It can be the smell of the bread from your childhood, a certain touch that reminds you of being safe and protected, or a song that brings you back to a phase of your life when you’ve felt calm and balanced. These anchors work automatically. Anchors can also be created intentionally. Establishing an anchor means producing the stimuli when the resourceful state is experienced. You intentionally create yourself an experience that mentally and emotionally takes you back to a place where you’ve felt confident and resourceful. You can use anchors to overcome challenges and rewrite patterns. You can also create new anchors proactively and use them when tough times are around. Anchors can be visual, auditory, or kinesthetic. I found the impact even more profound when I worked with my clients to install the anchors into the body’s memory by tapping, establishing a touch-based anchor, or using bilateral stimulation. Try this anchoring practice:
